The Pensions Authority now requires employers to arrange for trustees to receive trustee training with effect from February 1, 2010.
What does this mean for your pension scheme?
- Any trustee appointed on or after February 1, 2010 has to receive training within six months of appointment and every two years thereafter.
- Trustees already appointed before February 1, have until January 31 2012 to receive their first training course, and then every two years thereafter.
- All directors of a corporate trustee must also receive training as set out above. Where a corporate trustees is appointed for the first time after February 1, 2010, all the directors must receive training within six months (and every two years thereafter). Where the corporate trustee is appointed before 2010, but a new director is appointed to that company after February 1, 2010, that director must receive training within six months, etc.
